I wonder if the guy knee paddling hooted at this ride? Whoever this is, looks like he is in total zen-mode, concentrating all his trimming powers on this Malibu section.

It kinda looks like Miget Farrley from Austrailia...and then again...it could be Joey Cabell or Kemp Aaberg...same kind of style..always in full trim...just sitting in the pocket and riding.

One thing is for certain. That is not Johnny Fain. My vote is for either Midget (the nose looks too short) or a local Malibu surfer named Bert Decker, who was surfing for the Malibu Surfing Association.
BTW - neither Midget or Nat is from Malibu. But both of them have surfed there, and I first met Midget back in the sixties when he stayed with a friend of mine down on Topanga Beach.

Looking at the photo again, I think it's Malibu local, Bert Decker (Decker Canyon). I'll copy it and post it on the California Surfing Memories and Photos Facebook group and ask there.
From all the evidence - as presented on the CSM&P Facebook group - it appears to be Bert Decker.
I just wanted to say thank you for sharing your insights on this topic. Your perspective was unique and thought-provoking, and I really appreciated the way you presented your ideas.
